Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has yet again been in the forefront of controversy. Yesterday, the freshman congresswoman compared detaining illegal immigrants at the southern border to concentration camps in Nazi Germany. It should be noted that approximately 6 million Jews were exterminated during the Holocaust. Ocasio-Cortez defended her assertion by referencing an activist “expert.”
This administration has established concentration camps on the southern border of the United States for immigrants, where they are being brutalized with dehumanizing conditions and dying.
This is not hyperbole. It is the conclusion of expert analysis ⬇️https://t.co/2dWHxb7UuL

Many conservatives fought back against AOC’s hyperbolic accusation. Most notably, Representative Liz Cheney suggested that Ocasio-Cortez open a history book and educate herself about the Holocaust.
Please @AOC do us all a favor and spend just a few minutes learning some actual history. 6 million Jews were exterminated in the Holocaust. You demean their memory and disgrace yourself with comments like this. https://t.co/NX5KPPb2Hl

After retweeting several left-wing activists who came to her support, AOC tweeted that she does not believe “one dime” should go to the Department of Homeland Security so long as the agency detains illegal immigrants at the southern border. This is likely a rebuttal to Republicans who want to increase funding to allow for more humanitarian conditions for detained illegal immigrants.
Not one dime should go to DHS for building these camps as they detain children & families.
Congressional appropriations season is now. That means it’s 💰 time – we‘re voting to fund federal government programs.
We should not fund the caging of kids & families. Pretty simple.
